This is the first book in The Ruined Series and thus it sets up a lot of worldbuilding but it never fails to balance itself out with intricate writing, beautiful scenery and characters to die for. FaJohn's writing style is something to look out for, something immersive and captivating. (Yes it's in the title but it's still worth a mention). We have everything fantasy needs: blood magic, dragons, political intrigue, lies and betrayal, prophecies, fights to drool over, a good enemies to lovers subplot and, I can't stress this enough dragons.
